7:00 PM at Katrina's House

Those in attendance

Randy Buck
Steve Berger
Shanon Osborne
Katrina Grippa
Shanti Sukumar
Phil Divinagracia
Teresa Barrientz
Angela Moreno
Manny Mansetta

Registration has not been sent in yet.

Assistant den leaders will pay their own registration if there is more than one per den. The cost of registration is $7.00 for additional assistants.

Katrina reminded everyone that you need to fill out a Local Tour Permit when transporting Cub Scouts.

Shanon told us that annual registration dues for Cub Scouts who are continuing need to be collected before the end of the year. The annual registration dues for this year are $35.00. If parents want to subscribe to Boy's Life magazine, it will cost an additional $8.00. The total annual registration dues with Boy's Life magazine are $43.00. Only Tiger Cubs continuing from last year will be eligible to receive Boy's Life magazine.

Pack 273 made a profit of $1040.00 for the popcorn fund-raiser. The total sales were $3470.00. The council will split 40/30, the remaining $2429.00 with Tradewinds.

Each den leader will give Manny a tally of each boy's sale so that he can purchase Pokemon cards. Each boy who sold $50.00 or more will receive a pack of Pokemon cards; i.e., if a boy sold $150.00 in popcorn, then he will receive three packs of Pokemon cards.

Pack 273 made a profit of $48.68 on the raffle for the pack meeting on October 29, 1999. The pack spent 84.02 on prizes and took in $132.70. We will set a limit of $30.00 on prizes for the raffle at the next pack meeting. Angela D. and Jackie M. collected the money for the raffle tickets.

In September 2000 registration dues will increase to $45.00 a year for Cub Scouts and $30.00 year for Tiger Cubs. This can be paid in installments if parents cannot afford to pay all at one time. Den leaders will be responsible for collecting the registration dues.

The deadline for advancements will be the Friday before the pack meeting. The committee decided that there can be an unlimited amount of belt loops and patches given at the pack meeting. Cub Scouts will received their awards when they earn them instead of waiting for the next pack meeting.

In an effort to become more organized at the pack meetings, we may have a sign in sheet at the door for Cub Scouts and parents to sign in. It was mentioned that a door monitor might be a good idea also.

Phil stated the boys were too loud at the last pack meeting. Manny and Randy will submit a sketched out plan to seat the boys so that it is more organized and hopefully makes the boys less noisy.

Manny stated he will call all den leaders to find out how many packs of Pokemon cards he will need to get for the popcorn fund-raiser sales.

Scouting For Food will start on November 13, 1999. Bags will be dropped off to Manny that day.

On November 20, Manny will pick up the bags from Cabello at 12:00 PM and then transport with Randy to the Hub.

Any questions regarding Scouting For Food should be addressed to Manny. Manny said he will call Linda Wilcox to confirm all the arrangements.

Shanon handed out a flyer regarding the uniform inspection. She also reviewed the duty roster for the next pack meeting.

Steve will supply the inspector at the pack meeting. It will be someone from the Optimist Club.

Steve will draft a standard letter for monetary/goods donations.

Each Cub Scout has to be accompanied by an adult when on a camping trip. As mentioned before, each den leader must fill out a Local Tour Permit before planning the trip.

Randy has all the Buffalo Blood stuff for the pack meeting. He said he will use V-8 juice and "something else" for the Buffalo Blood. All wolves and den leaders will have to participate.

Fred Allen from the Optimist Club has a chest full of Cub Scout stuff. Randy will look into this.

Michelle Rich (mother of Kevin Pyatt) will take the pictures at the pack meeting for each den and the pack.

Ceremonial necklaces will be make by Shanti.

The next pack meeting is November 19, 1999 at Cabello School.

Members voiced last minute concerns.

Sean Brady was volunteered to be Akela.

Strobe lights will be given to each boy who sold three items or more for the popcorn fund-raiser.

The next committee meeting is scheduled for November 22, 1999 at Randy's house.

The meeting adjourned at 9:05 PM.

See Duty Roster for Den assignments.

REVIEW OF MINUTES

TREASURY REPORT

The pack currently has approximately $450. It was agreed that with the money from the Beanie Baby raffle next month the Pack will have enough for the September Round-Up and Pack meeting. Much discussion centered around various possible fund raisers for next year. Skip brought information to the table he received from an acquaintance of Shannon Osborne's regarding a possible Tupperware fund raiser. Further discussions regarding fund raisers will be tabled until the August Committee Meeting.

OLD BUSINESS

The Regatta was a big success. Another really long pack meeting, but lots of fun.

We still need a new Committee Chair and Cubmaster for next year. Both Pete and Skip will be retiring after June. Leaders should put the word out that someone MUST step forward to take over if Pack 273 is to survive.

All sessions of summer camp are still open. It is recommended that leaders strongly encourage their dens to go to camp. See Camp Coordinator Joe Stevenin

NEW BUSINESS

1. The possibility of our pack participating in the Fremont 4th of July parade on Saturday, July 3rd, was discussed. Skip brought information and details and asked leaders present if one would step forward to organize our Pack's participation. Leaders present were not sure of their plans for this time so Skip will call other leaders regarding same.

2. June Campout - The campground fee will be $2.00 per person for those spending the night. EBRPD has changed their fee structure and now charges a $50.00 minimum for Cub Scout camping. The pack will pay this fee and be reimbursed (as much as possible) from the $2.00 fee per person. Each den will make its own dinner arrangements. All campers are responsible for bringing their own gear for camping. The pack will provide ingredients for building a campfire and making "smores."

All boys will receive their scarfs for their next rank during the graduation ceremony. Pack will buy scarfs and parents will reimburse.

3. Pete Godfrey may not be able to attend the campout (he will be missed!). If not, Skip will take over as Cubmaster for this meeting.

4. Shanti Sukumar will be taking over as Advancements Coordinator as of this month. Thanks to retiring Merci DelRosario for 4 years of dedicated service as our Advancements Coordinator. Also, thanks to retiring Pack Secretary Katie Guerere for her note taking and kind hospitality.

The Pinewood Derby Committee is as follows: Roger Butler, Carl Grippa and David Gutierrez. Pete will be responsible for bringing the tracks.

3. NEW PACK POLICY - PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES: It is up to each parent to let a den leader know of any circumstances if they cannot stay at a pack meeting with their child. It is not appropriate to assume that a den leader will watch your child or be solely taking care of your child. The pack meetings are an overall parent / child meeting and we would really like all involved to participate.

REVIEW OF MINUTES

TREASURY REPORT

The pack has a balance of $1630.44. The pack generated $74.00 in cake sales, this was without the Beanie Babies, GOOD JOB!

OLD BUSINESS

1. PACK MEETING INVOLVEMENT

It was discussed that Den leaders as well as parents need to participate in keeping the dens under control. We are recommending that a den leader sit with your den at the pack meetings to insure self control amongst the boys. Sign in sheets will be provided at every pack meeting, please be sure that your boys and their parents sign in. 100% participation from your den will bring you a den participation ribbon.

2. COMMITTEE MEETINGS

We strongly urge and recommend all leaders attend the committee meetings. You will obtain valuable information as well as participating in structuring the activities for the boys.

3. NOVEMBER PACK MEETING

"WHAT'S IN THE WALNUT" - Den 8 was the winner of this contest with 8 correct guesses.

UNIFORM INSPECTION - All dens did extremely well. We all wanted to thank Fred Allen for taking the time to come and help with the inspection.

SCOUTING FOR FOOD - Our den collected 2,398 food items. Our pack ranked 5th in collections overall and ranked #1 among participating Cub Scout Packs. Mission Peak District collected 51,000 food items. SFBAC collected over 170,000 food items - EVERYONE THAT PARTICIPATED SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF A JOB WELL DONE.

DEN PICTURES - Skip Wagner will be posting the pictures on the Web site and will be available to the leaders.

NEW BUSINESS

1. DECEMBER PACK MEETING

A Christmas tree will be purchased and donated to the Tri City Shelter. We are encouraging the dens to make ornaments that can be kept or donated with the tree, the ornaments will be at the discretion of the den leaders. If each boy (or den) would like, we will be collecting toys for the shelter as well. Please bring in a new, wrapped toy with a gift tag specifying if the gift is for a boy or girl and what age. A den will take the tree and gifts to the shelter. Also, we are taking canned food donations for the shelter. For every can that is received, you will be given a raffle ticket for a chance at winning a Beanie Baby. Tickets can also be purchased for 2/$1.00. This money as well as the pack donating $50.00 will also be given to the Tri City Shelter.

A special visit from Santa. Skip will be making arrangements for the "Big Guy's" visit. Santa will be giving candy canes to the boys and their siblings.

CHRISTMAS CAROLING - Shannon Osborne has made arrangements to have the boys carol at the Sunrise Rehab Center (2500 Country Drive, Fremont) on 12/5/98 @ 3 pm. Her Tiger Cubs will also be going the Christmas in the Park afterwards. Please contact Shannon for additional details.

2. PACK ACCIDENT INSURANCE - It was decided at the committee meeting that insurance would be purchased by the Pack. Cost for each boy and leader is $.70. OLD BUSINESS

NEW BUSINESS

1. NOVEMBER PACK MEETING

This pack meeting will be at Pioneer School for the November meeting only. This change is due to a conflict at Cabello. The meeting will be held in the multi-purpose room.

Uniform Inspection - All boys must be in full uniform. The boys will be inspected by our leaders. Skip Wagner is contacting Fred Allan of the Optimists Club and John Tester to ask if they will assist with the inspections. While each den is being inspected, the remaining dens will have activities such as the "Walnut" game to keep them occupied. Please note that sports pins and academic pins do not belong on the boys uniforms.

Pictures - We all felt that this would be a great opportunity to have den pictures as well as a pack picture taken.

Buffalo Blood Ceremony - The ceremony will be performed for all of the new boys as well as the new leaders.

2. PACK LIABILITY INSURANCE - This issue was discussed in great length and concerns were aired as to whether insurance is actually needed and to what extent is the pack responsible. Skip Wagner will call the council for further clarification.

3. FOOD DRIVE - The dates are listed above. Each den has been given the territory that they need to cover. By the boys dropping off and picking up bags in their designated areas give the pack great exposure. Skip will be distributing the bags to each of the leaders. Katrina Grippa made a suggestion that each den may want to make posters for their area to leave up as a reminder to people.

REVIEW OF MINUTES

TREASURY REPORT

The pack has a balance of $121.24 (financial report enclosed for your review). We generated additional funds with the Beanie Baby raffle, this was a success. An announcement will be made at the Pack meeting in regards to how our funds are handled.

OLD BUSINESS

NEW BUSINESS

1. ROUND UP - The pack has 32 new members. We have 10 new Tiger Cubs, 15 new Wolves, 6 new Bears and 1 new Webelos. With all of the new members, come new leaders:

  • Kathy Brady - Wolf Den 4
  • David Gutierrez - Den 3
  • Bear Den 9 - A leader is still needed.

2. LEADERSHIP FEES AND REGISTRATION - Please have your boy's registration fees into the pack as soon as possible, $35.00 per boy w/o Boys Life, $43.00 per boy with Boys Life. The committee made a motion to pay for all leaders. Motion was granted.

3. SEPTEMBER PACK MEETING - The pack meeting seem to running long and it has been suggested to streamline the theme's. This year we do not have the chairs in the cafeteria, the chairs were removed and are being stored at Logan High School. Due to the cost of $30.00 per meeting to have the chairs moved, we have decided to make do with the tables that are available to us. The PA system will back for the October Pack meeting.

4. CAN DRIVE - Den 8 turned in $16.56 and Den 2 turned in $5.00 - GREAT START!! FYI - We have found that the best place (and most profitable) to turn in your cans is the Recycle Center on Western Ave. (off of Alvarado).

5. OCTOBER PACK MEETING - COSTUME PARTY.

Judging of the costumes, the kids will parade through the cafeteria as scary music is being played.

PRIZES - 3 Ice cream certificates for each category - SCARIEST, FUNNIEST, UGLIEST AND MOST ORIGINAL. To identify the children, the will be given a numbered label. 3 prizes will also be awarded to the siblings. Prizes will also be awarded to the Leaders with the best costumes. The leaders will judge the boys as well as the siblings. The boys will judge the leader by noise. A d decibel meter will be placed in the room.

PUMPKIN CONTEST - This project will be judged. The project must contain a pumpkin. Be as creative a possible and the pumpkins may be carved. Ribbons will be awarded for the pumpkins.

ATTENDANCE RIBBONS - We will start giving our attendance ribbons at the pack meeting. We feel that this encourages participation not only from the boys but also from the parents.

6. HALLOWEEN INSURANCE - Certificates that can be sold by the boys to friends and family committing them to clean up after Halloween. Their is a time restriction on the certificates as well as special notes (i.e.: no handling of hazardous material, no climbing on the roof , etc.). Skip Wagner will be delivering master copies to the den leaders, so please handle at your discretion. The leaders will need to set the fees for the certificates and it was decided by the committee that all funds would stay within the individual dens.

7. NOVEMBER FOOD DRIVE - We will have more information forthcoming.

OLD BUSINESS

NEW BUSINESS

1. Welcome back! We had a great attendance for the first committee meeting. We do encourage all leaders to attend these planning sessions.

2. LEADERSHIP - It was discussed that Pete Godfrey, Skip Wagner, Katie Guerere and Merci Del Rosario will be bridging with our Webelos 2 and 8 in Boy Scouts in May. We need to have new leaders come forward to keep up the momentum of Pack 273. If you are interested in any of the positions, please contact Pete, Skip or myself.

3. FUND RAISERS - It has been decided as a den that we will try and raise funds by recycling aluminum cans. Each den will be responsible for accumulating their cans and taking them to the recycle depots. Please present Pete with the funds and a receipt so we can keep track of the poundage. A chart will be made so we can track each dens progress. This fund raiser will be in effective until the February pack meeting. At this time, the den with the most pounds turned in will win a PIZZA PARTY! Good Luck to all dens.

4. BEANIE BABIES HAVE ARRIVED - It was decided that Beanie Babies will be part of the monthly raffles. We will raffle the cakes as well as Beanie Babies. We are attempting to obtain the Bears. This additional raffle will help generate additional funds to the pack.
