PACK REPRESENTATIVE FOR CUB SCOUT CAMPSResponsibilities
Camp is the best way to keep a summertime Pack program active. Thank you for accepting this very important assignment. You have the opportunity to bring a great deal of fun and adventure into the life of every Cub Scout in your Pack, and into the lives of some of your parents, too.
1) Make the decision now to help every boy in your Pack enjoy a Cub Camping experience this summer.
2) Read carefully through the contents of this Pack Reservation Kit. (Kit Available January 8th at the Cub Scout Camping Open House during a scheduled orientation. Kits available at YLTC after this date). Make note of the key deadline dates (see Registration Calendar). Most of your questions will be answered after reading the packet. If you have further questions, call the Program Department at (510) 577-9000.
3) Consult with your Cubmaster and Pack Committee to select the location and dates most convenient to your Pack membership. Your boys may attend as many camps and locations as they wish.
4) The Pack Representative will collect individual boy applications for camps with Pack Registration requirements (Cub/Webelos Day Camp and Webelos Adventure Camp). Signups for camps requiring Individual Registrations are done by the Scout's family. You are responsible for the coordination and registration for camps requiring Pack Registration.
5) Enlist the support of others! Ask Den Leaders to talk about camp with their ' boys and parents. The District Cub Camping Chairperson can be asked to present a program at your next Pack Meeting. There is a short, but exciting, video for this purpose. Ask the boys who attended last year to tell first-hand about the fun of camp. Parents who attended last year can do the same thing. Make sure every family knows about the Cub Camping opportunities this summer!
6) Ask your Cubmaster to help you recruit enough adult leadership. A minimum of 2 leaders per day is required (two registered adult leaders, or one registered adult and a parent of a participating Scout, one of whom must be at least 21 years of age) for the first 8 boys, plus one adult for each 1- 8 additional boy(s). Once you have one leader committed to going, you'll find that others will hop on the bandwagon more quickly. Adults in your Pack, who have made a council commitment and have volunteered for a key staff position (i.e., crafts, sports, archery, first aid directors), may not count towards your Pack's adult leadership. If you have questions, please contact your camp director.
7) Collect fees from each boy who will attend camp and have his parent fill out an individual registration form. You or your Cubmaster will be sent a roster form to list all your registrations. Your boys will give you the registration forms which they have received in the mail (you can also make copies from this catalog). Send in your Pack's Registration. IMPORTANT: Do not list Cub Scout camp and Webelos camp on the same pack registration. Use separate sheets. If you add more boys, you can submit a second Pack Registration, space permitting.
Pack Registration Camps: Each family should make their check payable to the Pack. The Pack then deposits the payments and writes ONE check payable to SFBAC for the entire Pack's registration.
8) Here are some special hints for you:
- Don't overlook your graduating Tiger Cubs. They are eligible to attend Cub Day Camp and Wolf/Bear Adventure Camp if they have graduated from the first grade before camp.
- New spring Cub Scouts should not be overlooked.
- If a boy cannot attend camp with the rest of the Pack, help him find another location or date. (Remember to use a separate pack registration form).
- Cub Day Camp is primarily for Cubs; Webelos Scouts will find more challenge at Webelos Day Camps.
- Promotional material about Cub Scout Camping this summer will be sent to every registered adult Scouter and Cub Scout Extras are available from your District Executive or at the Council Service Center.
