2003 WEBELOS ADVENTURECAMP
Parent and LeaderInformation

[ParentsMeeting | LeaderOrientationMeeting]

WHAT IS ADVENTURE CAMP?

Resident camp is a chance for Webelos Scouts and their leaders and parents to enjoy a long term camping experience with their Webelos den/patrol. Scouts attend with their Pack leaders or provisionally for a six day encampment and enjoy the facilities of Camp Royaneh.

Camp Royaneh is located in the beautiful coastal redwoods near Cazadero in Sonoma County. The weather at Royaneh is moderately warm in the afternoons and cool in the evenings.

Activities include swimming in our Olympic size swimming pool, archery, BB gun marksmanship, camp fires and programs at our lighted amphitheater, nature hikes, sports, fun crafts and inter-den competitions.

ADVENTURE CAMP is advancement oriented activities geared to help Webelos achieve their Scouting goals. The time spent with friends from their Pack will help develop their living skills. It is also an opportunity for the adults and leaders in camp to learn about Webelos-to-Boy Scout transition and how to shop for a Boy Scout Troop.

WHO MAY ATTEND

All boys who have completed the 3rd or 4th grade may attend. The Pack is to provide one leader per 4 Scouts.

CAMP DATES

  • Session 1 - August 4-9, 2003
  • Session 2 - August 11-16, 2003

CAMP FEES / REGISTRATION

Camp fees are per boy, per week:

$195.00 if attending with his pack
$225.00 if attending without his pack (provisional)
* $195.00 for additional adult leaders based on space and availability (above complimentary leader limit)

A $50 deposit is due by April 16 to ensure a reservation. All reservations are made through your pack's camping coordinator. The balance of fees are due no later than July 9.

Fees include transportation to camp, meals, activities, crafts, supplies, accident insurance, and a camp T-shirt and patch.

This camp is a "registration by Pack" camp. Work with your Pack Camping Representative to register your son for the session your pack will be attending. Fill out the Individual Boy Scout form completely. Be sure to sign all authorizations. All Scouts must complete the BSA "Personal Health and Medical Record" form (see below).

Turn in the registration and fees to your Pack Camping Representative. Parents, please do NOT return forms and fees to the council office. Your Pack Camping Representative will collect all forms and fees for the pack and turn them in to the Council together. The Pack must register as a unit for Adventure Camp.

* Packs with less than 4 boys attending camp may have boys attend as provisional campers (Contact you Pack Leadership).

COMPLIMENTARY LEADERS

  • If 4-8 boys attend, your pack receives 2 free leaders
  • If 9-12 boys attend, your pack receives 3 free leaders.
  • If 13-24 boys attend, your pack receives 4 free leaders
  • All other adults will be asked to pay $195 per space and availability

PACK LEADERSHIP

Each pack is required to maintain a minimum of two leaders in camp at all times. We request a parent/Scout ratio of 1:4. Parents are encouraged to help in providing leadership.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Packs will be assigned campsites according to the size of the group. Accommodations will either be in the villages (cabin-like structures housing dens of 8); or in two-man tents provided by the camp. Scouts who attend as provisionals will be assigned to dens with qualified adult leadership provided by the camp.

MEALS

Nutritious meals will be provided by our qualified cook and kitchen staff and served in our spacious dining hall. Meals begin with lunch on Monday and end with breakfast on Saturday.

MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

Every Webelos Scout attending camp must have in their possession a completed "Personal Health and Medical Record, Class 1 & 2". This form must be properly completed and signed by a doctor* and his parents before he may board the bus. A medical recheck will take place upon arrival at camp. Arrangements have been made with local hospitals in case of illness or injury.

* A physical exam by a doctor is required once every 3 years. If no serious injury or illness has occurred since the last exam, the doctor can certify the exam and the parents may complete and sign the record.

Adults attending camp overnight: Adults under age 40 follow the same guidelines as Scouts; adults over age 40 are required to have a physical exam each year they attend camp and use the Adult Over 40 Medical Form (Class 3).

TRANSPORTATION

The camp fee includes a bus ride from the Council Service Center leaving Monday morning at 8:00 AM sharp. Boys should arrive between 7:15 and 7:30 AM. Those living near the camp may drive their sons directly there but all other boys are encouraged to ride the bus as part of the adventure. We consider the bus to be the beginning of the camp program and request that all boys take the bus. Parents are responsible for picking up their son on Saturday morning. Volunteer adults are needed to ride on the bus with the boys.

CAMP STAFF

The staff ratio is 1 staff member for every 5 boys. A certified Camp Director oversees a certified Program Director, professional cook, aquatics director and field sports director. Carefully selected Boy Scouts and volunteer adults serve as program aides. A state certified health officer is in residence at the camp 24 hours a day.

PICTURES

Included in your confirmation packet will be an envelope with which to order photos. Bring this with you to the bus or to the parent orientation meeting.

We DO NOT recommend expensive cameras be brought to camp. If your son likes to take pictures, the "throwaway" type, with his name and Pack number written on the box, are preferred.

BE SURE TO PUT YOUR SON'S NAME ON EVERYTHING!

Each year we receive numerous calls requesting lost items from camp. Few lost items can be returned without a name. When collecting your son on Saturday morning please check his bags, particularly for his uniform, his jacket, any other items he particularly treasures. Check the Honor Box before leaving camp. Once he leaves camp it is more difficult to locate lost items.

ACCREDITATION

The San Francisco Bay Area Council's camps are nationally accredited. The camp undergoes a rigid inspection based on the National Camping Standards of the Boy Scouts of America.

SIBLING POLICY

Due to liability considerations and the lack of appropriate facilities, the San Francisco Bay Area Council must enforce the policy that only registered Scouts attend Scout related functions at camp. Children and siblings of those registered for that specific program are not to attend unless the program has been specifically designed with adequate facilities to handle them.

Family Camp is designed to handle the needs of the whole family, but Camporees, Webelorees, Summer Cub Scout and Boy Scout long term resident camps are not the place for siblings to stay overnight or participate in the program.

CAMPERSHIPS

At times it is difficult for a boy and his parents to raise the full fee for summer camp. Starting to save early is a big help for most families. Campership applications for those in need are available at the Council Service Centers. No Scout will receive a full camper-ship. Troop/ Pack committees will be encouraged to assist Scouts in finding ways to earn as much as possible towards their camp fees.

Approval notice is sent to parents and Scoutmaster/Cubmaster. Camperships are not transferable. Things to consider when filling out the campership form are family income, number in the family, and efforts of the Scout, his family, and his Troop/ Pack to earn his way.

Funds are limited, the campership committee will make every effort to see as many Scouts as have need are assisted in going to camp.

REFUNDS

Program Refund Policy applies.
